As crazy as this may seem, this is actually one of the first anime shows l’ve ever seen. I must have been like 14 or 15 years old back then. And yes, I also watched the movie. I rememeber nothing regarding any opinion I could have had of it since this show is so… hum. The irony of it is I love frreaky stuff nowadays.

Anyway, Shinji’s english voice is so incredibly noisy that it’s painful to my brain. And no, I’m not exaggerating. Though I guess it’s still leagues above our own dub, which made each comedian record their lines separately, with a time slot of only a few hours for each episode, and without ever watching the japanese version before dubbing. The result is an absolute disaster…

It really bothers me how you (rightly) tear down the philosophy put forward in episodes 25 and 26 of the original series… and then proceed to completely dismiss End of Evangelion as a “screw you” to the fans, when in fact if you take a look it actually offers better philosophical solutions by far than the series, and in fact opposes solipsistic viewpoints entirely. The End of Evangelion movie is all about Shinji learning to accept the world for what it is – that’s why he rejects Instrumentality.

There’s nothing in End of Evangelion that’s a “screw you” to the fans except for the scene at the beginning where Shinji… um… examines Asuka, which I’ve always felt is supposed to be Anno’s reaction to the fetishization of some of the characters of the series (i.e. ZOMG TEH REI). I understand his point, but I kind of wish he’d left that scene on the cutting room floor.

I would say that you need a fresh perspective on EoE. A rewatch may be in order.

I can see why this show is overrated.
