Surprised there isn't a thread for this already.

So, was looking forward to the first episode of Sasami-san@Ganbaranai. Just finished watching it and all I can think is what the *dolphin noise* did I just watch?! Art style is gorgeous and I'm really intrigued as to where the series is going to go.

Below is the supposed plot synopsis but don't let that put you off, this show isn't like any slice of life romcom you've seen before. Trust me, watch the first episode.

Spoiler: show
The story follows a hikikomori named Sasami who is unmotivated about even changing clothes or eating. Her brother takes care of her, even though she despises his slave-like nature. Sasami spends her days viewing the outside world via a "Brother Surveillance Tool" on her computer. In the outside world, the three beautiful Yagami sisters and Sasami's brother are in the middle of relationships worthy of a romantic comedy.

Not a significant spoiler, but don't click if you'd rather go into the episode fresh.

Spoiler: show

One minute in and anyone who has watched a Shaft show can feel that it's a Shaft work, and same to anyone who has a Shinbo work. It's hard to put my finger on it, but perhaps it has to do with the style the story is told, viewed, and even spoken with the wordplay used.

As to if I actually enjoyed it, this was honestly fairly entertaining and a show i'm going to keep up with. The backgrounds were gorgeous and the comedy was pretty funny at time. I'm going to perfectly be honest and say that i'm not completely 100% on what happened as to what really did happen in the world and what it did not (granted, this is fantasy and I was viewing it like I did with NHK), but it's going to be entertaining to watch and find out more about.

Now i'm going to get some chocolate as this show made me start craving some.

I watched the first episode and loved it! It was really strange, but I've seen Kuuchuu Buranko, which is waaay weirder than this. My favorite character so far is probably the brother, he's just so silly!

But the little sister (Whom I call "Little Ribbit" :3) is just so cute!

That soundtraaaaaaaaack.
One episode in and I already want it.
Anyway, this is so shaft, and I adore that. Also the watercolor feel because watercolors are wonderfuuuuul.
I like pretty much everything about this right now, though whether it stays good or becomes a mess remains to be seen~

"Tsurugi, Tama und Kagami refer to the Imperial Regalia, i.e. the sword Kusanagi no tsurugi which was used by the god Susanoo to slay the many-headed serpent Yamata-no-Orochi, the jewel Yasakani no magatama and the mirror Yata no kagami which were both used to lure the sun goddess Amaterasu out of her cave to illuminate the world again.

Sasami and Kamiomi’s surname is Tsukuyomi.

Amaterasu, Susanoo and Tsukuyomi are siblings and the gods ruling over the sun, moon and night, respectively." -RandomC
Tama means ball/soul and her power appeared to be a protective sphere of some sort.
Tsurugi means sword and her weapon is a sword
Kagami means Mirror/Model and she appears to be a cyborg robot type thing

The soundtrack was really good so far and It looks absolutely gorgeous. The story while seemingly non-sensical, looks to be setting itself up for something. I'm not expecting anything mind-blowing, but I was certainly entertained while watching it.

I had a feeling I was going to love this show, and I was right! It's kinda familiar territory with NHK, but it's a girl this time with a brother. And then it's SOOOOOOOOOOO pretty and so much fun! I'm really really excited to watch more of it!

Yea I'm always glad to watch more "hikkikomori/otaku" shows like NHK or Genshiken. The characters are always so interesting to watch and sympathize with.

Goddamn this thing was amazing. This probably isn't a good thing, but I am waaaaay too much like Sasami. Also, I now have a craving for chocolate.
