Shame, but no hair off my back either way. Embedding it in the forums on top of that is beyond my abilities, if at all possible and a flash chat doesn't meet the needs of a community like this.

As for the idleness, the irc works in burst, most folks I know leave it on in the background while doing things around the house. And to be fair, D2 has a comparatively ACTIVE irc for its size. I've seen rooms with 200 people in them and no one talking for three days. Just stick around for more than five seconds. Seeing an anonymous mib nick pop in and out without say hello or giving others the chance five times a day gets kinda annoying and comes across as rude.

The things I'm taking away from this thread so far is this:
More active mods that will actually judge fairly a situation
More IRC hot times (say after a stream)
Advertise the IRC more

Hi.

Forum I work for had an irc that had an embedded link to it on the forums. It doesn't take much work.

If you can send me a pm about how to do so I would be glad to set it up. I'm not completely unwilling to do so, it's just out of my capabilities and knowledge at this time. I mean I guess you could link mibbit but I'm not sure how to attach it directly to the D2irc as I don't use mibbit. :3

As for you Fugoy, people are complaining that they don't come in because of lax and unfair modding in the past, and scheduling isn't THAT hard is so many people can make it so someplace like Hardy's stream week after week.

Finally, I'm asking you to please be civil Fugoy. If you won't respect me as a mod, at least have the courtesy to treat me as a person. I have not done anything directly offending towards you yet, making your actions and manner of carrying yourself entirely unwarranted and down right rude. Please refrain. There is a fine line of difference between being blunt and being offensive. You are on the wrong side of this line right now.

I am not a techie. I work on the community aspect on my forum, being one of seven mods.

I could point the admins into someone's direction but I am pretty sure she would ask for admin priveleges so she could do it herself.

Though knowing her, she would just laugh at all of you for using a board software that is mediocre at best... she is kind of a awesome lady.

You not being on IRC isn't my problem, nor is it Sahoni's Fugoy. If you choose not to use it is your business, but we expect you to be respectful of the work that he has done regardless if you make use of that work or not.

That is like saying that people should respect me because I help start a gaming, anime and a wargamming club and made them successful. It is rather irrelevant.

I kind of take offense at that Zab. Perhaps I'm misreading the subtext of your response, but it feels like you are claiming the IRC is not an equal part of the community at least in your eyes. We staff have all put a lot of effort into making the IRC into a fun and safe part of the community, which in my eyes is hardly irrelevant. In return I would at least hope that people recognize that work, even if they don't think it will amount to much of anything.

Sahoni has worked extra hard to fix the IRC and to try to ask in how to improve it. I'm extremely disappointed to see some people taking advantage of Sahoni's good will and attempts to improve things with a response of ingratitude. He didn't have to make this thread, and did so to help the community by improving a important aspect of it. If you don't like the chat and don't participate in it then I'm sorry, but that isn't a reason to claim that those who do use the chat and who have put in time to working on it are any less important part of this site. This is the last time I will warn anyone: if I hear that anyone is continuing to disrespectful towards sahoni or any other staff member in this thread (in violation of rule one of the forums) I will be forced to take serious (punishment based) action.

Question. When the payment for the main site runs out, you're going to have to connect the irc to these forums in someway anyway, because the main site will be gone, right? I don't know how these things work though, but to come up with a solution before that time would be best.

Ark is paying for the forums.

Late response, but I think what Zab is saying, is that the IRC is at this point in time, a very minor aspect of this forum-- as they usually are on most sites. From the user perspective, they won't exactly 'respect' a staff member who does no visible work to them.

In other words, make the irc relevant to the majority and then respect can be given to Sahoni as an IRC moderator.

Also, if Ark is the techie of the admins... couldn't he like, post a link to the irc on the top page's tool bar where it has stuff like 'DesuDes Main Site' and things?

IRC is just as a important part of the community as the forum, and there is no excuse for being rude to a staff member here.

I take minor offense at being told to "make it more relevant for the majority, and then we will respect Sahoni." First off I expect respect everyone to respect Sahoni, because he is a important staff member here. We expect our members to treat any member of staff here with respect, regardless of what there area focus is. As staff we will not tolerate this topic being used for directly being disrespect towards any staff member or towards the IRC part of the community. This is a topic about improving the IRC, not putting it down as less important or a staff members who work the on the IRC.

I know your not trying to be offensive so I will explain why this comment bothers me so much. Sahoni, I and the rest of the staff have been trying to make it more inclusive for everyone the best we can and have noted our accomplishments and possible goals for the IRC. All we seem to have received mostly though is negative feedback, and disparaging remarks about the IRC and the work we have put into it. I'm not sure what we could be doing to make the IRC "more relevant," other then what we have been by trying to do, which is to suggest new things here. The only other thing we haven't suggested is drastically restructuring the IRC in a way that would marginalize its user base, and could ruin the relaxed chat feel (which is why we haven't suggested it).
