And the winner for the most alliterative topic goes to me!

Welcome back to yet another week of American Toku Month. We've braved the best and worst that Saban has to offer, so let's move away from them and focus on another company that produced American tokusatsu: DIC Entertainment. DIC were no strangers when it came to adapting Japanese television, having dubbed and released Sailor Moon in the states, and like everyone else at the time, they wanted to cash in on the Power Rangers craze. Enter Tsuburaya Productions, the creators of Ultraman. In 1994, Tsuburaya had just finished airing Gridman, which was basically Ultraman mixed with Digimon. Tsuburaya let DIC create their own adaptation of Gridman a year later, and thus Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad was born.

You might be asking yourselves, "how will the Americans screw up this adaptation?", and the answer is that they didn't. This is a rare case of an American toku being accurate to its original story. You have a group of teenagers fighting evil viruses created by a loner teenager and an evil digital overlord. It's basically just Gridman but with Americans instead of Japanese. While the show is by no means a masterpiece, it is deliciously cheesy and features Tim Curry as the villain, and I think we can all agree that we need something good to wash the taste of Masked Rider from our mouths.
