Enough dull titles that explain exactly what we're showing. Time to go back to the colorful and silly titles that I come up with on a whim!

For the next three weeks, we'll be having a space theme. The first year anniversary of Sentai Sunday is coming, and to build up to the big event, we're featuring some of the stars of the big night early. This week, the very first Metal Hero, Space Sheriff Gavan!



Debuting in 1982, Gavan was the start of a brand new tokusatsu franchise. Unlike the squadrons of Super Sentai and the vigilantes of Kamen Rider, Gavan was a lone man of the law. Instead of spandex and rubber armor, Gavan donned space metal to combat evil. Space Sheriff Gavan tells the story of, well, a sheriff from space sent to protect the earth from the evil Don Horror and his Space Crime Organization. It's a simple story, but it launched an entire franchise of Metal Heroes, some of which were later adapted into American shows such as VR Troopers and Big Bad Beetleborgs. Gavan's design was also the inspiration for Robocop's design. No joke. If you ever wondered why Robocop looks so badass, you can thank tokusatsu.

From 1982 until 1998, Metal Heroes stood beside Kamen Rider and Super Sentai as one of the key tokusatsu franchises. It's been on ice for a decade now, but after a crossover with Gokaiger earlier this year, Gavan is coming back in his own feature movie in October to celebrate his 30th anniversary. With the original Metal Hero making a comeback, it only makes sense that Sentai Sunday would celebrate it by featuring the show that started it all.

As always, Sentai Sunday begins at 8 PM EST with two episodes of Garo along with some toku trailers and more! Our main feature, Space Sheriff Gavan, airs at 9 PM EST! Stick around after the show for previews of future streams and an episode of Cutie Honey the Live!
