Amon is either a relative of Mako and Bolin cuz of the fire bending story or maybe a brother of tenzin cuz of his spiritbending

Spoiler: show
I believe there's a connection building between him and Mako, but the age difference is too big to be related to blood. I think it's more that they represent two opposite beliefs, and Amon might try to sway Mako down the line.

I also don't believe he's related to Tenzin. Boh Lin and Mako are brothers but each have radically different bending powers, most likely because they're parents were both from the fire nation and the earth kingdom. I don't believe being the son of the Avatar is enough to use energy bending (the two other sons were mentioned to not be benders).

I'm guessing there's a spirit we haven't see yet like he said, or there's something else at work we don't understand yet. It's hard to tell how genuine Amon is.

Spoiler: show
And that is why Mako is gonna be the new Zukko

Gonna throw in a bit of speculation myself after watching the 3rd ep. Little small though, not too big a thing.
Spoiler: show
Again going from Mako's and Amon's fire bending stories, I can't help but speculate that the link might be simply that it was the same fire bender(s) that caused both of their misfortune, which may come up in some sort of confrontation down the road between Mako(possibly Boh Lin too) and Amon. Maybe one of those "we're not so different" types of speeches...
But that's just a big guess, aha. We'll see.
Man, I am so excited for this show. ^^ I already can't wait for next Saturday.
Also, I want a Pabu. D: HNNNG
...A Naga too...

As of now I have only seen the first hour long episode of Korra (Yea I'm late so sue me) and it was amazing. The struggle between benders and non-benders was a good idea for the series and from what little I have seen of the leader of the non-bending resistance he seems like he will be a great villain.

As for the new characters I really enjoy Tenzin's kids particularly the oldest daughter. Tenzin himself the way he gets angered easily annoyed me a bit but he seems like he will be a a great character later on. I am really interested in how the two brothers will develop in relation to Korra (It was pretty obvious the fatter, fun-loving one is going to the love interest). I also enjoyed Toph's daughter a lot her ultra strict, no BS attitude got he hooked instantly.

It was also clear we are going to meet other characters eventually like Aang's other sons and the descendants of the other main characters we haven't seen yet.

I also hope they show how exactly Aang died. I am certain they will show it eventually but I am already anticipating the reveal.

So, I watched "The Revelation" today....

Spoiler: show
HOLY doodoo!!! AMON CAN ENERGYBEND?!!! Way to make your villain a credible threat. I also like that Ty Lee's chi blocking style is still in use. Makes sense. Not to mention the Equalists use of technology to level the playing field against Benders.

So far, Korra is staying up to the standard I held for it.

Pabu and Naga, best friends for life.

THat revelation...
Spoiler: show
WAS FREAKING SWEET. This makes Amon TERRIFFYING. I do have to wonder how exactly he came by this power. Aang had a chat with a lion-turtle to get it. Amon certainly doesn't have the same intentions for the power. Maybe it was the spirit of an ancient vengeful spirit who lived when the power was commonplace. Or maybe he's an avatar fanboy and studied/learned the technique from Aang himself. Amon being voiced by Steve Blum is just the icing on this great villain.

LOVING this show.

CONGRATULATIONS MIKE! You've just uncovered the core problem with EVERY revolution that ever existed!
Spoiler: show
That being, in order to denounce the oppression present in the system, the revolutionists have to resort to oppression themselves. Those that preach the evils of government control and violence will, in an attempt to rid the world of the problem, have to use the very techniques they so heavily rallied against. And all under the banner of "liberty" or "equality". Makes the title "Equalists" a lot more relevent than we thought.

That actually brings up a good point that this series has: its freakishly accurate with its portrayal of political and social dilemmas as they've been presented throughout human history.
Spoiler: show
There has always been a desire to sort people into classes to keep society organized, leading to financial and social divisions that inevitably push the lower classes to revolt. They rally in numbers, attempt to equalize the masses and end the oppression of the ruling class (which is exactly what happened in the French Revolution of the late 1700s). The problem of course being that, once socialism has been accomplished, things get incredibly hard to control and the nation haults to a standstill because no one can enforce rules anymore. Which of course calls for someone to take charge and lead the people....creating class structures and the cycle continues over and over again.

........oh god I'm such a nerd! Why can't I just watch the cartoon without going all literary theory on it?!

Oh, 'nother little tidbit regarding the newest episode. Pretty sure Tenzin knows something about
Spoiler: show
the ability to take away bending that we don't, going by his quick little eye aversion and pause when Korra told him the news.
WHAT COULD IT BE? owo

I wonder
Spoiler: show
The only two people in the world who we know have witnessed Energy bending before were Aang and Fire Lord Ozai. I doubt Aang would ever teach anyone this technique because of how frightening it is, but who would hold a grudge against bending and it's champion? Ozai. Not saying Amon is Ozai, but Ozai was kept alive at the end of the first avatar so perhaps at some point Amon met with him and learned about Energybending. If this were the case it would show far reaching consequences for the avatar's actions and put responsibility for stopping the rebellion on the shoulders of the current Avatar Korra.

Every instance of unwanted help is a form of oppression. It's imposing your will and idea of what is right on other people. The more power gained, the more earnest you help, the more oppressive you become. A Revolution is never a rally against oppression because it is by nature oppressive. The only thing a Revolution does, is change power from one hand to the next. However a system must represent the will of its people and when it fails to do so must change, if by protest or if by force. Hence why government is constantly changing.
