Overall, the new Lupin series is hit and miss.

The action and comedy is similar to the 2nd series, but it's darker and more sexual like the manga. Sure, Fujiko was a sexual character in the original anime, but she wasn't flashing her titties and having as much sex as she is in the new show. The visual style is more like the manga as well. It's the most unique-looking anime I've seen this season, using sketchy shadows and an older style of art to stand out. It's not to everyone's liking, but if you like different art styles, you'll probably like it.

If you've liked any Lupin show or movie, you'll most likely enjoy the new show. It's one of my favorite shows of the season, and I encourage anyone with an interest in the Lupin franchise to check it out.

It's... now I haven't seen the 2nd Lupin series mind you, but I do get the general idea of what it was like, stylistically and tone-wise... etc.
The new Lupin is... edgier. It's got more of a dark and sensual feel to it, more in line with how the gang was portrayed in the original manga. It's less goofy and a bit more serious. Maybe even a little sinister.
Looks-wise it's pretty damn awesome; it's got very unique and stylized visuals and some nice animation to match, er,most of the time. (the animation itself can slack off in some episodes because I'm assuming the creators were a bit over their heads in how consistently they'd be able to keep up with the style they've chosen, especially with budgets and deadlines)
Also the new series' main focus is on Fujiko--which is where a lot of that sensual edge I mentioned earlier comes from(LOTS of nudity, sex, etc. LOTS. xD)--rather than Lupin or the gang, though they do all show up and have their moments in the spotlight. It's more about her relationships with them.

And it's a lot of fun so far! Some episodes are hit n' miss, but yeah.
Just be prepared for a somewhat similar, but still different experience than the 80s television show. Probably something you'd still enjoy though if you liked the old series.

EDIT: Ahhh I've been ninja'd by Zab and Durga. xD Whelp, seems there's more than enough opinion here now, aha.

Funimation is simulcasting the show, so go watch it there. The more viewers Funimation gets, the more likely it'll get a video release here in the states. New episodes come out every Friday.

I would really like an anime with aliens and a good sense of humor.

Examples: Level E, Tsuritama, FLCL
