Sentai Sunday: MASKED RIDER! (7/15) American Toku Month

This is it, folks. I've been teasing this show for months. Lesser men quake in fear at the mere mention of its name. It's been shunned by creators and fans alike. It prevented Kamen Rider from coming to the states for the longest time. What dreadful piece of American toku adaptation could I be talking about?

MASKED RIDER!

Yes, I'm finally streaming this piece of crap for real this time. No April Fool joke this week, this is the real deal. For those new to the stream, Masked Rider was Saban Entertainment's attempt at adapting Super Sentai's older brother franchise Kamen Rider for the kids of America. The Kamen Rider series that was chosen to be adapted was Kamen Rider Black RX, the lighter yet still kickass sequel to Kamen Rider Black, which is one of the best showa era Kamen Riders in my opinion.

However, like with Power Rangers, Saban decided not to use the original story and instead made a brand new one centering around an alien kid who comes to Earth to fight against an evil galactic empire. Not a bad concept, but when you throw in elements like an annoying alien sidekick, terrible actors, and god awful dialogue and fight scenes, it falls flat on its face. Kamen Rider fans disowned this series for a good reason. Even Saban Entertainment has fully admitted how terrible this show was. Strap yourselves in, folks. You're in for a hell of a ride this Sunday.
