Sorry to say it, but if they are gonna want to hate dubs. By god they will hate dubs even if the dub is damn near perfect.
But if you're still content, go with Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex and Welcome to the NHK

As a former anti-dub person, I like to think that most people who are hating dubs just for hating's sake can be 'redeemed', so to speak.

Well, the reason I said something beside the obvious:
TRIGUN, BEBOP, BACCANO, FMA!!!!!

Is because they have been recognised for being really good dubs, and I admit it. But there have been other dubs that have matched that quality that just get overshadowed.
I'm sorry for trying to gain some hipster points :geek:

As witnessed by the list I knew of, even 'the obvious' is not obvious to everyone: Haven't watched Bebop or Baccano! at all, and I've only seen Trigun and Fullmetal Alchemist subbed :P

Princess Jellyfish: A Funimation dub starring some of their lesser known actors, Josh Grelle and Maxey Whitehead. Both knock it out of the part as the lead roles and the supporting cast is rather good as well. The dub also manages to translate some Japanese puns without making them awkward, which is a plus.

Baccano: One of the best dubs ever. Not that the Japanese track was bad, but the English dub knocks it out of the park by adding plenty of 1930's flavor to the dialogue and accents, which only enhances the quality of the show instead of sounding cheesy and fake.

Wolf's Rain: All-star cast with the same ADR director as Cowboy Bebop. I know not everyone's into this show, but I love it and the dub is great.

Rideback: Another Funimation dub with some of their lesser known actors. It's a series that needs more love and has a good dub, so I'm throwing it in here. :3

Thanks for the recommendations, everyone. I will look into these, or at least some of them, as looking through all of them would require a huge amount of time. Not complaining about having a big list of selections, though :)

Now I'm asking for recommendations.

I've been enjoying Space Brothers this season, and I've been reading Twin Spica. Both focus on characters trying to become astronauts, and I love them. Are there any anime/manga that take a realistic approach to space exploration that you'd recommend? I've heard good things about Planetes, but I'd be interested in watching about more anime like this.

There are not many hard sci-fi series out there that don't go too far out of the realms of technology that we have today. Planetes is probably the only one that is given general praise.

Sound of the Sky, while using the same art style of K-On, has a good story and a god damned fantastic ending. Its not the K-on ripoff most people pan it to be. Its a war story, a drama under the moe guise.

So I reccomend it. Even Ark likes it.

The closest thing I can think of outside Planetes is Wings of Honneamise. It's a little bit more fantastical than what you're looking for, but I honestly can't think of anything else that comes close.

Better question: why has there to be a moe guise at all?

Thick enough that you won't like it I think. No offence.

none taken. Taste pertains to the subject, not the object.
