"Aaaah ahhh ahhh ahh!"

Yes, with the return of the Bukkit, as well as the D2B in general, means renewing a lot of old topics. So why not start up again with the whole "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" craze? So if there's any Bronies on the Bukkit who want to indulge in the Pony Madness, this is the place to do so. However, any non-harmonious business may get one banished to the moon. (No, this is NOT a joke! Okay, maybe not...)

And to get the full effect of this topic's title, I suggest listening to this!

I was totally a brony before anyone else on this board. Wow, that oddly hipster of me. I now know what's like being Caleb.

Yeah, I can't wait for Season 2. Fall can't come fast enough.

I don't like it.

I also find it sad that grown men go to cons for this cartoon made for girls too young to watch Hanna Montana. I don't care if someone likes it, but I do find it sad when grown men start taking it so seriously and describe it as the second coming of the greatest age of animation.

Although I believe anyone's entitled to their own opinion, I really only wanted fans of the show to post here. But whatever. I can still counteract any negativity with some silly "PMVs" that I've found!

(Someday I may start a topic about that show here! Maybe.)

(These are immensely popular, since it's Weird Al and all!)

(Less an AMV than something really humorous! To me anyway!)

Sorry, but I'm a bit negative because I've been dealing with people trying to push this on me.

Watched an episode, it was okay, not my thing.

Meanwhile, the rest of the internet won't shut up over this show. I wouldn't mind if it wasn't everywhere. >:[

Title wise it can be assumed that. Production value wise on the other hand "Hell no!". It is pretty much a fact that this show has high production value which is what makes the show worth watching regardless of age and gender. Production value wise alone this show practically screams that fans of anime in the age range of 18-30 or so should be watching it. Almost all of the voice actors can be found in the westernized J culture. For example it has Final Fantasy 10's riku as the voice of the main character Twilight Sparkle, Gotenks from the original dragon ball Z dub as rarity, death note voice actors that play the roles of spike and princess Celestia, and pinkie pie/flutter shy's voice actress can be found playing roles in animes as old as Ranma 1/2 and mobile suit gundam. Heck even Scott MeNeil the voice actor behind Piccolo makes a cameo appearance in the show in a episode or 2.

Animation wise this show has a high production value as well seeing as the person behind the art design of the show is Lauren Faust. This is the same person who made Fosters home of imaginary friends and Power puff girls. If names is not enough the production team manages to the animation at a fluent rate which is practically unseen in current western animation. There are also mini unnoticeable finishing touches to the background such as background ponies interacting to each other, blinking eyes, etc. Though it may not seem like much this makes the town backgrounds look as lively giving it kinda like the towns in FF XII. Animation and video game companies these days are catching up on this idea because back then the background characters will usually be shown either motionless in the background, shown but in poor quality such as faceless people or lazy stick figure like, or not at all.

Story wise the first 2 episodes is a good introduction to the characters though it does not represent what the show is like as the rest of the shows 3-26 is more like an episodic slice of life show. I could say that the episodic parts are similar to that of popular slice of life animes but that would be a understatement as this show has a realistic conflict while most slice of life anime shows have either no conflict at all or has unrealistic characters that it would be meaningless to the viewer. If people did not like the first episode I honestly recommend skipping the 2nd episode as it is more of the same and try the slice of life episodes as they represent what you will actually be watching.

TL:DR It's a practically fact that MLP FiM is made for anime audiences in mind and can be enjoyed by the demographic it was intended for. Episodes 1-2 Does not represent the whole show, it would kinda be like me watching only the first episode of some mecha anime and not stay for the mecha part of the mecha anime.

Also yeah this show is getting the Hetalia effect where it is huge and spreading through various fandoms.

...it's MY LITTLE PONY. The damn thing was made for little girls, thinking otherwise is just fooling yourself.

If you like it, fine, but good lord people, it's a show made for little girls. Just accept that, don't try to use the new art style to say otherwise because most Western animation has been coping that style.

If you ignored the whole entire "show aspect" of My little pony FiM and based it on the title alone then I would agree. Production value wise, which is the major changing factor in terms of determining the demographic of who should be watching it, I would say FiM is more family oriented.

You can't really make an argument on demographic based on title alone. Take Dreamworks, Pixar, or that animation company that made Rango for example. All of these companies make movies in which if you just looked at the title alone it could be assumed the demographic would be "for kids", however these movies have a way of making it family oriented by having clever humor that adults can enjoy as well which is what FiM is doing as well.

Even the creator Lauren Faust came out and said "She did not make this show for little girls. She created it for girls and their parents" aka family oriented. If you don't believe me look at the image below.

MY.

LITTLE.

PONY.

Look at that title. Take a good, long look at that title. Remember why it was even created in the first place and think hard on why a new series exists now. Once again, if you like it, I have no problem, but you're just fooling yourself. It would be the same if I said that Transformers wasn't targeted at little boys outside the films, which panders to tweens and young teens.

We are not talking about My little pony. We are talking about Friendship is magic aka a totally different adaptation of the same franchise. This adaptation was not made just for little girls as said in previous examples above.

Comparing FiM to it's ancestors is like trying to compare Dark knight to the 1960s batman adaptation. AKA It's not the same thing and saying otherwise is completely wrong. You haven't seen the whole show so you can't make a compelling argument to persuade me otherwise.
